How to Send Money to an Inmate in Douglas County Correctional Center?

There are two main channels through which family and friends may send money to inmates in the Douglas County Correctional Center: the Public Teller Window and the authorized service vendor (ConnectNetwork).

The Public Teller Window is a 24/7 facility kiosk that accepts in-person cash deposits, card payments, and money orders, as well as mailed money orders. However, inmates can only receive one deposit per day. On the other hand, the authorized vendor lets loved ones make credit card deposits online or via phone call. The vendor may also provide a kiosk in the facility.

Family and friends can make in-person deposits through the kiosk by:

  1. Visiting the jail lobby
  2. Provide the recipient’s name and data number
  3. Providing funds and paying small fees.

Alternatively, persons may send money orders by making it payable to the inmate (include name and data number), enclosing it in an envelope with the sender’s return address, and mailing it to:

Douglas County Department of Corrections

Inmate’s first and last name, #data number

710 South 17th Street,

Omaha, NE 68102.

Lastly, online or telephone deposits through the authorized vendor may require the following:

  1. An account set up for online deposits or calling the Automated Payment System line
  2. Facility details (name and location)
  3. Inmate name and data number
  4. A valid payment method (credit/debit card) to send funds and pay fees.

Funds in an inmate’s account can be used to buy commissary items, pay fines/bonds, or pay other jail/court fees.

Loved ones can also fund an inmate’s calling or communications account online through the approved communications vendor (SmartCommunications). Additional deposit details are available on the facility’s inmate account page.

Inmate Search by Jail Facility

There are two inmate search tools available to find inmates in Douglas County:

The Douglas County Department of Corrections’ inmate locator tool provides access to information on adult inmates currently held in the county jail, excluding juvenile offenders or federal detainees.

On the other hand, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services’ incarceration record search tool may help locate state inmates and may include public data on juvenile inmates adjudicated as adults. However, records on juvenile inmates are mostly unavailable to the public under state laws.

Douglas County Visitation Rules and Schedules

The Douglas County Department of Corrections allows inmates to receive remote and on-site video visits under strict guidelines. These visits are conducted through the approved visitation vendor (SmartCommunications). To begin the visitation process, family and friends must:

  1. Register or create an account on the vendor’s website by providing personal information and contact details
  2. Search for inmates to "connect" with and send connection requests
  3. Receive the inmate’s approval
  4. Schedule visits online.

Upon account set up, the facility requires potential visitors to select their relationship category (personal or professional) and submit credentials for verification. After successful registration and connection, approved persons may schedule onsite or remote visits in the following steps:

  1. Log in to your visitation account and select "visitation."
  2. Find or choose the inmate to schedule a video visit with
  3. Choose the local visit or remote visit option
  4. Key in your preferred visit duration (15 or 30 minutes)
  5. Decide on the visit date (available window typically range for 7 days)
  6. Confirm details and submit.

Inmates can receive two free 15-minute visits weekly. However, the facility has limited free kiosks available, and the vendor bills for remote sessions. On-site visiting hours are as follows:

  • Mondays to Fridays: 02:30 p.m. to 05:30 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 12:00 p.m. to 05:30 p.m.

(Doors open 15 minutes earlier.)

If you plan to use the kiosk, you’ll likely need to provide an ID. Most visitors provide a driver’s license or some government-issued photo ID. Additionally, personal items are not permitted in the visiting area. Any item should be left in their vehicles or lockers at the lobby. Finally, be sure to review the visiting dress code. As is common with most prisons, you’ll be expected to dress appropriately and keep the facility’s visitation rules concerning proper conduct and acceptable items in the visiting area.

Visitation schedules and guidelines are subject to change, so interested persons may visit the DCDC visitation page or call (402) 599-2230 for further instructions.

Mailing and Commissary Information

Inmates in the county jail may receive regular postal or electronic mail through the approved communication provider/vendor (SmartCommunications). The DCDC no longer accepts inmate mail sent to the facility. Family and friends must address their mail to:

Smart Communications/Douglas County Department of Corrections

Inmate name and #data number (example John Doe, #012345)

P.O. Box 9162

Seminole, FL 33775-9151.

Envelopes or postcards must include the inmate’s name and data number, as well as the sender’s return address. Regular mail will be scanned into the system and available for inmates to view via tablets. Acceptable mails include letters, postcards, and greeting cards. However, photographs, books, publications, or subscriptions are not acceptable. Persons can only send photographs through the electronic mail system.

Additionally, the DCDC also makes commissary services available for inmates to purchase approved care packages (non-prescription medications, stationery, hygiene products, and food items) with the money in their inmate accounts. Family and friends may fund inmate accounts through kiosks/Public Teller Window at the facility or through the authorized service vendor (ConnectNetwork).
