Douglas County Divorce Records

Divorce court records in Douglas County stem from dissolution proceedings held in the Douglas County District Court. These proceedings seek to terminate a marital union and assign rights or liabilities as provided by law or agreed upon by the spouses.

Under Nebraska’s public records law and Supreme Court rules, divorce court records, including petitions, orders, and decrees, are public records. Case access channels include the state judiciary’s JUSTICE portal, the courthouse using JUSTICE public access terminals, or the district court clerk’s office.

Note that confidential records, such as financial affidavits, minors’ identifying information (Rule § 6-1464), and medical reports, are restricted from public access; only the parties involved, their counsel, and other legally authorized parties are granted access.

It is important not to mix up divorce court records with divorce certificates. The former are court documents accessible as specified above, but the latter are vital records maintained by the DHHS (Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services). Divorce certificates are closed records restricted to individuals with a "direct and tangible interest."
